About

I once loved writing but mostly forgot about the fun part when I entered academia. Fast forward some years: Now that I’m in the objectively luxurious and subjectively torturing positon of getting paid by a university to write my dissertation, I might as well try to bring the fun back into writing in my ‘free’ time. That’s why I’m starting a blog in the age of podcasts. It feels like a slightly untimely project but then time itself feels untimely these days. When the world is ending maybe it’s time to start something?

Someone once said on a shared panel their methodology is not just opening random browser tabs. In this moment I realised: mine is. I’m convinced Walter Benjamin would approve: He would call it a constellation. I write in German and English. ‘About’ texts always sound better in English though. Sometimes I publish things elsewhere. The title of this little project – Facing Reality – is stolen from a book that was published in 1956 by the Marxist scholar and critic C.L.R James in collaboration with Grace C. Lee and the legendary Cornelius Castoriadis.

Most of the time I come up with ideas of what I could write about without doing the actual work. That’s why to critical minds this page could come across like a storage of half baked essay ideas. It actually is. It’s full of potential. If you like something here and want to commission a real essay or invite me to come to your talk show or moderate your wedding: please contact me. I love love. I love collaborations. I love getting paid.

If you’re planning to offer me a tenured position in academia, here’s my professional profile.
